UGAP International is a Non-Governmental Organization that provides educational opportunities to girls, from socially and economically disadvantaged communities in Africa and across the Globe, who traditionally have no access to schooling. Our aim is to break the cycle of illiteracy that girls from such communities are mired in. This is done through local community-based Learning Centers, where they get meaningful and stimulating education up to secondary education and are guided to their entry into mainstream education.

UGAP runs a comprehensive model of reforms for government schools through community ownership, with the aim to secure 100 percent, higher attendance and improved learning outcomes for all girls. The organization engages girl students, teachers, schools, communities, and, government officials within existing frameworks to create a sustainable, scalable, and holistic, platform in each village. Corporations, trusts, and individuals who want to make a difference support us.

However, not every girl child in Africa is as lucky.

Extreme poverty, illiteracy of parents, and entrenched patriarchy have all played a role in keeping girls from reaching their full potential through education. Girls from marginalized communities in both rural and urban areas are often forced to do household chores and take care of their siblings rather than study in school.

Educating the Girl Child has been shown to transform the community.

Education provides freedom from illiteracy and poverty. The lack of education is the cause of many problems around. Education is very important for every child whether boy or girl. It is sad that some communities still discriminate against the education of the girl child. Girls’ education is the need of the hour. Without educating the girls of any country, we cannot hope for a developed nation. A girl’s education is like sowing a seed, which gives rise to green, cheerful, and full-grown family plants. It is said that if we educate a man, we educate a man only, but if we educate a woman, we educate the whole family. This highlights the importance of female education.

We see education as an imperative tool for girls to realize their maximum potential by gaining crucial skills and dispositions that set them on the path of social and economic empowerment.

Our programs and projects work through building learning ecosystems that are inclusive, gender-conscious, and safe for all.
